Local Law Enforcement
Around 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a release.
Law enforcement say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then found multiple other marked cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement state initial examinations show the fluid was probably blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; investigators are not yet cognizant of any harm in connection with the event," they stated.
Local authorities said they were attempting "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for details.
A senior official commented the attack rendered him speechless and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist attack five years ago," he posted on a platform, referring to the murder of nine people by a assailant targeting people of immigrant origin in 2020.
