Lando Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has outperformed Oscar Piastri at all of the previous five race weekends.
Lando Norris narrowly beat team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the points lead from Piastri by a single point after winning in Mexico City two weeks ago, topped the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before the sprint shootout scheduled for 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, trailing 36 points behind Norris, was classified in P17 as his team opted for a different programme.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he rotated at the fourth corner during the early running.
Tsunoda slid over the track edges before sliding over the escape zone, and was lucky to get away with just a minor contact of the barrier.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the conclusion of the session, rotating twice through the fast downhill Mergulho corner approaching the final corner on to the pit straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in 19th place, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber in third, 0.619secs slower than Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
